How this is calculated
Volume is area times depth. Gravel is usually sold by weight, and one cubic yard of typical gravel weighs about 1.4 tons (roughly 1.6 tonnes per m³).
Weight varies by stone type, so ask your supplier for their figure if you’re ordering in bulk.
How deep should gravel be?
2 to 3 inches (5 to 7.5 cm) for paths and decorative areas. Driveways need 4 to 6 inches or more, laid and compacted in layers.
Do I need landscape fabric?
It helps keep weeds down and stops gravel sinking into soil, especially on paths and decorative beds.
