How this is calculated
Volume is bed area times depth. Most retail mulch comes in 2 cu ft bags; bulk landscape suppliers sell by the cubic yard.
Bulk delivery is usually cheaper once you need more than about 3 cubic yards.
How deep should mulch be?
2 to 3 inches (5 to 7.5 cm) keeps weeds down without smothering roots. Keep it pulled back from tree trunks.
Does this work for topsoil?
Yes. Use 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) for new lawns and 8 inches (20 cm) or more for raised beds.
